Things to Know about GC Equipment
GC, i.e., gas chromatography, is a common type of chromatography, which is a method of chemical separation, usually used in analytical chemistry. This separation is usually done by analyzing compounds that can vaporize without any decomposition. Usually, a GC is performed to test the purity of certain compounds. It is also very commonly used to separate components in a mixture. There are many other ways in which gas chromatography is used as well, for example, identifying a certain compound or creating a pure compound from a mixture.
There are a number of equipment that is used in the gas chromatography process, such as GC Zero Air Generator. Some of this equipment includes an autosampler, or a gas regulator, etc.
Here are a few things that you must about this equipment of gas chromatography: -
- Autosampler: An autosampler is a machine or an instrument that works automatically to put the required compound, mixture, etc. into the GC for analysis. This is more reliable and saves a lot of time in doing the task, as opposed to when you do it with your hand. A GC autosampler can be used and is effective anywhere a GC is required, for example, forensics, environmental and medical labs, pharmaceuticals and food testing companies, etc. there are three types of a GC autosampler: 1- that deals with liquid samples, 2- this autosampler is called headspace and works with organic samples that evaporate quickly. And 3- this one uses a piece of fabric to obtain the required components. Some GC autosamplers can do all three.
- Regulator: The main function of a gas regulator in a GC is to supply gas at a constant pressure to the gas chromatograph. Cylinder regulators are directly fixed to a gas cylinder valve in order to reduce or regulate the pressure of the gas to a value that is suitable for the gas chromatograph. These valves come in 2 different types; they are – single-stage valve and double stage valve. As their names clear it, the single-stage valve-regulated gas pressure in one step, whereas a double step of the two-step valve, does it in two steps.
- Columns: a gas chromatography column is used to analyze any kind of substances and components included in the GC process.
- Column ovens: column ovens are an essential part of gas chromatography. The function of a GC oven is to provide the columns with a favorable temperature to elute, i.e., absorb or extract components.
- Detector: A detector is an equipment used in GC. It is also at times used in liquid chromatography, i.e., LC. The main function of a detector is to detect the components of a mixture being eluted in the GC process. There are two types of detector – destructive and non-destructive. A destructive detector uses various ways like burning, evaporating, mixing with reagents and etc. to detect the components in the mixture. Whereas a non-destructive detector directly measures the property of the column and detects the components.
You need to identify a GC equipment supplier in USA to cater to your requirements as having the best quality equipment is extremely imperative for seamless user experience.
